Maria Luisa Salcines was born in Guantánamo, Cuba and emigrated to the United States in 1963. Her work has appeared throughout the nation in newspapers, anthologies, and magazines.
She has been a columnist for The Monitor newspaper since 1994. She is the mother of two grown sons and a daughter, and has three beautiful grandsons. She lives
with her husband of 35 years and teenage daughter in McAllen, Texas.
She is the author of Little Things Remembered, A Cuban Immigrant’s Family
Ties, stories of life, parenting, and cultural identity. Maggie’s Visit to the Playroom, Play Time for Molly, Matt’s in Trouble
Again, and Matt Otra Vez en Problemas. These children’s books are on play therapy, filial therapy, and school
counseling. Three of her stories were published in Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul, and another of her stories appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Moms know Best.
Mrs. Salcines is a certified parent educator for The International Network for Children and Families. She works with school districts as a consultant giving workshops and parenting classes in Redirecting Children’s Behavior,
and Redirecting for a Cooperative Classroom. Mrs. Salcines is a Parent Instructor Network Trainer and can certify individuals interested in teaching the Redirecting Children's Behavior course.
She is a frequent guest speaker in schools and community organizations
