Maria Luisa Salcines was born in Guantánamo, Cuba and
emigrated to the United States in 1963. Her work has appeared throughout the nation in newspapers, anthologies, and magazines. She has been a columnist for The Monitor newspaper since 1994. She lives in McAllen,
Texas with her husband and three children.
She is the author of Little Things Remembered, A Cuban
Immigrant’s Family Ties, stories of life, parenting, and cultural identity. She also co-authored Maggie’s Visit to the Playroom, Play Time for Molly, Matt’s in Trouble Again, and Matt Otra Vez en Problemas. These children’s books
are on play therapy, filial therapy, and school counseling.
Mrs. Salcines is a certified parent educator for The International Network for Children and Families. She works with school districts as a consultant giving workshops and parenting classes in Redirecting Children’s Behavior, and Redirecting
for a Cooperative Classroom. As a Corporate Empowerment Consultant, she provides training for companies, working groups, CEOs and managers in Redirecting Corporate America. Mrs. Salcines is a Parent Instructor Network Trainer and can
certify individuals interested in teaching the Redirecting Children's Behavior course.
She is a frequent guest speaker in schools and community organizations where she
